Wybrane schorzenia drobiu mięsnego związane z technologią chowu oraz genotypem ptaków

Na przestrzeni ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat drobiarstwo jest jedną z najszybciej rozwijających się gałęzi produkcji zwierzęcej. Wykorzystanie najnowszych osiągnięć genetyki, hodowli i żywienia pozwoliło na uzyskanie ogromnego postępu w tej dziedzinie, jej wyspecjalizowanie oraz intensyfikację. Wszystko to służyło wzrostowi poziomu produkcji oraz uzyskaniu maksymalnych efektów ekonomicznych. Według Anthony’ego (1998), sukces w przemyśle drobiarskim jest napędzany poprzez możliwość ekonomicznie opłacalnego wytwarzania produktów powszechnie akceptowanych. Osiągnięto to poprzez wysoką intensywność selekcji, mały odstęp międzypokoleniowy i zredukowanie wpływu środowiska. Zgodnie z wymogami przetwórców i konsumentów, rezultatem tego jest skrócenie okresu odchowu i zwiększenie masy ciała oraz udziału mięśni piersiowych w tuszce, a także redukcja otłuszczenia. Dodatkowo poprawia się zdolności reprodukcyjne w celu uzyskania równowagi pomiędzy dwoma kierunkami użytkowania (Le Bihan-Duval i wsp., 2001; Flock i wsp., 2005). Nie wszystkie skutki tych zmian można uznać za pozytywne, zwłaszcza w aspekcie ich wpływu na organizmy samych ptaków. W trakcie pracy hodowlanej wybierano osobniki o najlepszych cechach produkcyjnych, wskutek czego u drobiu nastąpiły ogromne zmiany pod względem cech użytkowych. Jednak wzrastający genetyczny potencjał produkcyjny ptaków jest skorelowany z ich niższym potencjałem zdrowotnym i odpornościowym (Pawlak i Kontecka, 1995).
